UPDATE — Presbyterian effort, tidal wave aid

LAFAYETTE-ORINDA CHURCH
EFFORTS FOR TSUNAMI AID ARE PART OF PC(USA) CAMPAIGN

I called the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church to ask if it’s a
go-it-alone effort as they do a locally well-publicized drive for Indian
Ocean aid.

It is being conducted in concert with other churches in the presbytery,
and funds will go to the national offices of the Presbyterian Church
(USA). I’m very glad about that, of course. That means it will be part of
the larger ecumenical response.

The problem is that KCBS Radio didn’t say anything about that; you can
find the text of what they’ve been saying by browsing to www.kcbs.com and
tabbing ‘news’ ‘local’. The wider church, beyond that, the ecumenical
community, and beyond that, the international ecumenical and interfaith
response structure, isn’t even hinted at. People just don’t know what the
mainline ecumenical and interfaith connections are. I do hope they at
least would care, if they were told. Bob Cramer.
